加斯（克林特·伊斯特伍德饰）是亚特兰大勇士队的资深球探，然而近来他可够呛。上了年纪又有些视力衰退的他因此被认为已经无法适应当今变化的市场，并被分配了最后一次招新任务来证明自己的价值。加斯的老板兼好友彼特（约翰·古德曼饰）有些不忍，便找来了加斯的女儿米琪（艾米·亚当斯饰）帮忙一起完成这段任务旅程。然而这并不是什么轻松的事，自从米琪六岁丧母后，父女俩的关系就不见得多好，不巧还搭上了对手球队的年轻球探约翰尼（贾斯汀·汀布莱克饰），一路上的磕磕绊绊可不少。面对这堆难题，三人最后能否顺利渡过？
