多娜（珍妮·斯蕾特 Jenny Slate 饰）是一位小有名气的喜剧演员，正处在事业高峰期的她深受各路观众的喜爱，然而，在现实中，多娜的生活简直就是一出悲剧，她那花心成性的男朋友不仅背叛了她，更毫不留恋地选择了离开，之后，糟糕的心情影响到了多娜的演出，在一次失败的表演后，多娜的事业开始走上了下坡路。
一次偶然中，多娜结识了名叫麦克斯（杰克·雷西 Jake Lacy 饰）的男子，就连多娜自己也搞不清楚是怎么回事，她竟然在浑浑噩噩之中同相识不久的麦克斯发生了关系，糟糕的事情还不止于此，几个星期后，多娜意外的发现自己竟然已经身怀六甲，面对如此残酷的现实，多娜一时间竟然不知道该怎么办了。
