在过去的四千多年里，复活节岛上的兔子都辛勤劳动为世界各地的孩子们带去糖果和欢乐然而今年却出了点状况，即将接任父亲成为下一任复活节兔子的伊比（拉塞尔·布兰德配音）似乎对这个职业毫无热情，一心想成为一名乐队鼓手，周游世界。远在千里之外的加州，已过弱冠之年的弗雷德（詹姆斯·麦斯登饰）也遇到了同样的烦恼，一直不肯找工作的他终于在今年被父母建议搬出去住。得益于姐姐的暗中帮忙，弗雷德将前往她老板的一幢别墅暂住，然而此时兔子伊比也为了梦想来到加州街头，不巧竟被弗雷德的车撞了个正着，惊吓之余弗雷德也只好答应收留伊比让他养伤。在豪华别墅中，弗雷德开始和兔子伊比一起生活，磕磕碰碰中也不乏温情笑料，然而两人都没有料到，彼此的命运竟也不知不觉地交织在了一起……
